One article I recommend all product folks read is Cory Doctorow's original "Enshittification of TikTok" where the term was coined.
As we see capitalists rise further to prominence, there's a drive in the industry for "growth at all costs." What Doctorow helps outline, though, is that there is and will be a cost.
The more we over-prioritize business growth over customer value, the worse off our external outcomes become. On our customers, on our society, and our culture. Eventually, some businesses rightfully learn the hard way that this is not sustainable because a tipping point can occur where people leave for a more personally meaningful solution, or the company does something so egregiously greedy that they come under public fire for it.
How do you ensure you're properly balancing business value and customer value? Are there frameworks or measures you use? What keeps you, your team, and your business responsible? These are questions I hope keep product and tech people up at night.
